The restaurant Belvoirpark is nowadays home to a gourmet restaurant, a guilde house (Zunft Wollishofen) and the hotel academy of Zurich. It was built in 1830 by the family Escher and is in possession of the city of Zurich since 1901. To me, it is one of the most beautiful buildings in Zurich, especially during summer when you can enjoy the beautiful garden surrounding it.
I’ve had dinner at this location a couple of times during the last ten years and I must say I have never been disappointed. I haven’t been during the last few years (Zurich has just too many options!), but visited it twice during this hot summer. They offer à la carte and also have a daily menu where you can choose 2-5 courses. At both occasions I chose a starter, a main course and then couldn’t resist the famous dessert trolley. Look below and I think the pictures speak for themselves:
Amouse Bouche
On the left you see Prosciutto di Parma with honeydew, on the right roastbeef with soy glaze and wakame sald.
Starter
On the left: hot smoked salmon and on the right char with saffron sauce and risotto.
Main Course
entrecôte double with french fries.
veal fillet with mashed potatoes.
and now to the Dessert Trolley
and my selection on the first and second visit:
On the left you see a cake with pistachio sponge base and rasperry mousse on top that was incredibly light and fluffy, a cream puff in the shape of a swan and the infamous cream cake (“Crèmeschnitte”), which I am usually not a fan of, but this had just a bottom and a top layer of pastry and the vanilla creme in between was creamy and light and just divine. On the right picture you see a black forest cream, an amaretto and again a cream cake (I had to have it again!).
In sum, this restaurant has a location that can’t be beat (especially during summer, but it is also marvellous inside), a consistent high quality of food and service and for Zurich, the prices are fair. They also offer a business lunch, which I haven’t tested yet, but from what I have seen so far, I’d highly recommend to give it a try. The only thing that is not to like is the parking situation: There are a few around the house (use them if you are not afraid of scratches). So better use public transportation, closest tram stop is Brunaustrasse, Tram 7.
